Kingston Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital

MARCH 2026 | KINGSTON SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, KINGSTON SE, SA

This project, titled Brushstrokes for Better was created to promote wellbeing, connection and a sense of place throughout Kingston Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Delivered across multiple walls, the project included community consultation, a community painting day and the mentorship of local emerging artist Sage Jupe.

Inspired by the ideas and stories shared by residents, patients, staff and community members, the artworks celebrate native medicinal plants, local flora and wildlife of the Limestone Coast. These murals bring moments of warmth and joy to the hospital facade, particularly for those who may be going through difficult times.

A heartfelt thank you to Kingston District Council, the Kingston Robe Health Advisory Council, Country Arts SA, the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund, the hospital team, Uncle Ken, Sage Jupe, and the many residents, patients, staff and community members who helped shape the project.

A special thank you to everyone who joined the community painting day and contributed to the Nurses Quarters mural, it was wonderful to see so many people contribute and leave their brushstrokes on the artwork.

Thank you also to the many people who shared their warmth, generosity, stories and support throughout my time in Kingston. Creating these murals has been a privilege and I hope they bring moments of joy to patients, staff, families and the wider community for many years to come.
