‘A Fruitful Experiment’

JUNE 2025 | SUPPORTED BY THE CITY OF MITCHAM’S PUBLIC ART GRANT | BLACKWOOD, SA

Made possible thanks to the City of Mitcham’s Public Art Grant, ‘A Fruitful Experiment’ celebrates the Blackwood Experimental Orchard, its pivotal contributions to horticulture in South Australia and the value of the land to the community today. The design highlights a selection of fruit that was grown on the orchard, including cherries, peaches, nectarines, Prince Edward apples and citrus, along with the pine plantation, native plants and the manager’s office that can all be seen at the Blackwood Forest Recreation Park today.

My thanks to the City of Mitcham for making this project possible, and the lovely community for their support and interest (and endless coffee and treats!) throughout the installation.

Thanks to artist Sam Brooks for helping to get some progress done between rainy days!

And thanks also to Jack at World’s Best Specialised Cleaning for doing a fabulous job with the preparation, priming and anti-graffiti application.

These vibrant colours are thanks to Resene.
